Mary Mary are a Contemporary Gospel duo (no, I’m not writing a wiki for them.) They’ve sung quite a few songs those women and I think my old church dance group has danced to them more times than I can remember.
There is a song of theirs that I remember more than most and not just because it’s catchy (and it is very catchy). It’s called Get Up.
As children of God we have the ability to do anything we set out minds and our hearts to, yet sometimes we choose to sit and do nothing and are content with life taking control of us, rather than the other way round, just because it doesn’t seem to be going “too bad” and I guess we could always just cry about it right?
Wrong.
God made us and He made us for success, it’s never okay to just be “okay” because we’re much more than that and there’s so many great things that we still have to do. We don’t have time to sit down and let life take its course. God has plans for us and we need to put them into action.
First step: Get up!
When God was delivering the Israelites from slavery he said to Moses, “Moses, you do something!” God didn’t say that Moses should sit down, He’ll sort it out. And it took Moses some time. (Exodus 14:15-16)
Could you imagine Moses just sitting down drinking Lucozade saying, “Well, at least we tried, right guys. I’m sorry.”?
lol yeah, me neither.
We’ve got to change things with our faith and be like Moses and do something! Keep making progress.
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
– Philippians 4:13
The hook of the song Get up is:
“What are you afraid of?
Don’t you know what you’re made of?
One of God’s greatest creations
Take this invitation now…”
The first two lines ask very important questions and as children our answer to the first should always be “nothing” automatically making our second answer “I do”.
It’s true that fear – fear of failure is what stops a lot of people from progressing and ultimately from reaching a higher level of success.
“One of God’s greatest creations” – God doesn’t make anything, especially not his greatest creations to fail. So, that fear? Yeah, it can stop now – we’re not failures because there is no failure WITH God and God is always WITH US, therefore…you see where I’m going with this?
“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control].”
2 Timothy 1:7
“He said, She said, They said, What do you say?
– It’s your dreams
– Your choice
– Your time
– Your life
So don’t you miss it”
Another very important fact the song highlights:
YOU. What do YOU say?
Don’t worry about the people around you and what they’re doing with their life or what they think you should be doing with yours. The only consultation you need is the Holy Spirit’s and He will never guide you astray.
Don’t miss out on opportunities based on someone else’s experience with it.
Don’t miss out on the life you were meant to live because you decided to take a back seat. If you’re sitting at the back, then who’s driving?
Get up, and make things happen! Don’t be afraid of life. Live it and love it!
Through God’s Word you can empower yourself, acknowledge the power inside you and use it to make dreams become reality.
“24 hours, almost gone …”🕚💭
